Book Week at the Library This week, we celebrated Children's Book Week at the Glen Innes Severn Public & TAFE Library with a special Reading is Magic' storytelling session for children aged 0-5. Held on Wednesday, 21 August, the event was part of the national celebration of early childhood literature. The session included engaging stories and interactive activities designed to foster a love of reading from a young age. Rehabilitation Work on William Street Council's Heavy Patch Crew has commenced rehabilitation work on William Street in Glen Innes. The current focus is on repairing the section where William Street intersects with the New England Highway. Following the completion of this phase, crews will proceed to Glasson Street, where they will apply similar repair treatments. Recent wet weather has caused some delays, but an improvement in the weather forecast is expected to expedite the project's progress. Glen Innes Indoor Sports Stadium Hosts Netball NSW Schools Cup Last week, the Glen Innes Indoor Sports Stadium hosted students from Glen Innes Public School and St Joseph's Primary School for the Netball NSW Super Schools Cup. The event provided school aged participants with an opportunity to engage in an elevated netball experience through a series of round-robin games focused on fun and fitness. Both netball courts were utilised throughout the day, and students from both local schools demonstrated impressive enthusiasm and sportsmanship. The competition was supported by parents, grandparents, and friends, who appreciated the chance to escape the poor weather and enjoy the facility. GS GK DUBBO TARONGA PLAINS ZOO AND ATTRACTIONS Discover Dubbo with Life Choices Support Services Join Life Choices Support Services for a three-day getaway from 11-13 September 2024, exploring Dubbo's top attractions. This program offers a safe and engaging environment for children before and after school. Life Choices Support Services is offering free exercise classes every Friday from 9am to 10 am, delivered by Moveology New England The program includes an initial assessment (with a $7 registration fee), a movement assessment, ongoing reviews. and a social cuppa after class. Emmaville Road Pavement Reconstruction Commences Last week, Council commenced the reconstruction of Emmaville road, following significant damage from the 2021/2022 wet weather events. This project marks the start of the $3.6M Regional Roads Betterment Program, part of a larger $10M Local Road Betterment package secured in late 2023. The funding will enhance damaged infrastructure to be more resilient against future disasters. The current work includes excavating and removing failed pavement sections to 350mm depth, replacing them with high-quality gravel, followed by cement stabilisation and a new bitumen seal later this year. The reconstruction will cover 2.7km from the Glen Innes Airport towards Glen Innes.
