Council proudly celebrated NAIDOC Week with a series of engaging and culturally enriching events around Glen Innes. The Glen Innes Severn Public & TAFE Library hosted a variety of NAIDOC-themed activities, including a captivating storytelling session for the little ones, and two basket weaving workshops led by Waabii Chapman Burgess, where participants learned traditional weaving techniques. The Youth Booth also had a memorable NAIDOC Week, with Glen Innes youth actively participating in the NAIDOC Community Day. The event featured a Welcome to Country, a Smoking Ceremony, and a vibrant NAIDOC march where many gathered and walked down the main street of Glen Innes together. As part of the Community Day. the Glen Innes Local Aboriginal Land Council held an awards ceremony at Town Squre. recognising significant contributions from the community Council received two certificates of appreciation: one awarded to Glen Innes Severn Council and the other to the Glen Innes Youth Booth. Additionally, Councillor Carol Sparks was also awarded with recognition for her work with the First Nations community. while Council staff member, Fred Blair received the Male Australian First Nations Caring for Country and Culture award. Old Grafton Road - Flood Damage Repair Contractors are currently undertaking repairs on a damaged and unstable batter along Old Grafton Road The work includes the extension of a box culvert in preparation for the placement of armour rock and the stabilisation of the road embankment. These essential works are funded through the Essential Public Asset Restoration program Infrastructure Works Program The following works are scheduled in the period ending Friday, 2 August 2024 delayer conditions and Jet patching in Glen Innes Township. Mt Mitchell Road and Wellington Vale Road General pothole patching street sweeping and roadside slashing around the Glen Innes Township The Roads Construction Crew will be working at Haymarket Road Maintenance grading is scheduled Glen Legh Road, Millers Road, Ben Nevis Road, Nant Park Road, Rangers Valley Road, Wycliffe Road and Spicers Road Maintenance crew is installing Blue Rural Addressing signage and Emmaville roadside maintenance The bridge team are working on Mann River Bridge on Mt Mitchell Road The Heavy Patching Crew will be undertaking the heavy patching on Hunter Street Kerb project and urban heavy patching reseal program.
